I think teaching is a straightforwardly beneficial thing for mankind. I like to naively think of teaching this way: when you learn, you only learn for yourself. But if you teach, you will multiplies 30 or 40 times the knowledge for others. And the knowledge you shared, will live one on others and be shared again to many many more. It’s fascinating how a simple act of teaching can be so impactful.
SUSTAINABILITY ENGINEERING
Light from Thường Xuân
Amid the rolling hills of Thường Xuân, Thanh Hóa, I joined a team bringing solar-powered streetlights. It’s truly amazing when I first see a streetlight with just a solar panel, no cables, no powerlines. By simply taking energy from the sunlight, it greatly helped locals navigate at night and increased the feeling of security for them. The streetlights showed me that engineering can have this immediate and lasting impact, all while in harmony with the envrionment.
We continued our journey to Bát Mọt Primary School, where old walls were painted anew. I taught childrens numbers and letters, yet they through their smiles and innocence taught me something far greater: that every small act of kindness can progress the world in its own way.
It wasn’t just a volunteering trip, but a journey to learn how to give with my hands, my heart, and my knowledge.
